General History of the Multi-Disciplinary Arts Center

In 1985, Little City Foundation launched Project VITAL, a course in basic video production tailored specifically for people with developmental disabilities. This curriculum, still taught today at community access television centers, allows people with disabilities to share their ideas, concerns and creativity with mainstream media and culture.  As VITAL graduates expressed the desire to continue working in video, Little City established the Media Arts Center to provide equipment and support for these emerging artists.  In 1994, the Center expanded with new programs in performance and studio arts allowing more people  with disabilities to explore the arts.  Workshops and artist residencies have brought professionals from different backgrounds and disciplines and created collaborations that often expand the definitions of community based art making.  These exciting new programs have lead to what is now the Multi-Disciplinary Art Center at Little City Foundation.  Artistical Studios is the beginning of a new age in collaborative art making.

     We have won numerous awards.

Our artists are included in many exhibitions.

There are national organizations that assist artists who have disabilities.
