St. Eliabeth Hospital

1939                                       St. Elizabeth Hospital. Chicago, IL

Where were you born?
St. Elizabeth's Hospital, August 28, 1939 on a hot day.

How do you know it was hot?
I read it in my baby book and I remember it.

What else do you remember?
My father was named Meyer Hirsch.  My mother was Lottie Hirsch.

What kind of people were they?
Pretty good, really good.  My mother was very beautiful when I was a little boy.  She had a beautiful face with freckles on it, with dark black hair, nice arms, and she always wore slacks and dresses.  She wore nice nylon stockings and high heel shoes.  Lipstick and a little rouge and some earrings.

If you could name one famous person to compare your mother to who would it be?
Liz Taylor, a young Liz Taylor.  She had dark hair, right?

Her personality?
My mother had a great personality.  Once in a while she gets a little cross at us kids.  She had a good head on her shoulders.

Give me an example?
When we'd throw the silverware on the floor, I forget.

What about your dad?
My dad was 23 when he got married.  He worked in Mailing's Shoe store with my mother when they first got married in '37.  Did I write when I was born?

Yes.

Did they meet in the shoe store?
Yes.

What was your dad like?
My dad was a good, stout man, he had a little belly but he was stout.

What do you mean by stout?
He was a little small, 5'3"/5'7"

What about his personality?
Every afternoon he went swimming during the hot summer.  If he had permission from his boss.
